A couple of months ago, you received a letter from my brother, Jonathan "Smitty" Smith, who has now stepped into the role of CEO. Shortly after that went out, our Development Director came to my office with two words: "Your turn."
Sheesh. I worked on this message in an office that my mom and our founder, Pam Smith, once shared. Her legacy is everywhere—her dedication to the calling on her life is imprinted not only in the halls of AGC, but also in the hearts of her children.
I won’t lie, I have some big shoes to fill.
No one had the passion and vision my mom did. But a close second is my big brother, with whom I now have the honor of working every day.
Despite the joy of working in the family business, there are days when I feel inadequate to help lead this organization.
“Fighting for Family Wellbeing” is an overwhelming task. Much of our success and struggle takes place behind the scenes—hidden in the homes of families, in the offices of therapists, in courtrooms, classrooms, and churches. It’s like a tree growing stronger over the years, with all the work happening at the root level.
That’s how Mom did it. That’s how we’ll continue to do it.
I’m quickly approaching my 13th year serving alongside the most incredible team of men and women here at All God’s Children. And when I say team, I don’t just mean our employees (who are absolutely the best). I also mean our volunteers, foster parents, daycare families, and the business and church leaders who support us across Central Kentucky.
Many of you have asked how you can help in our fight for family wellbeing. I urge you to pray for families in our community and around the world, for moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and all those entrusted with the responsibility of guiding the next generation’s hearts toward hope, healing, and ultimately, Christ.
